The power of essential oils is unlimited and during the festive period they are a perfect opportunity to add to the Christmas feel as well as support your self care. I am sure you have heard of some of the popular aromatherapy oils such as lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus and tea tree but lets add a little winter spice with these go-to oils that will have your guests thinking they are in Christmas heaven. Not only will they help with making your house smell divine they are also extremely potent in aiding your emotional and mental wellbeing. Check out my festive favourites when adding that little something special to your wellbeing.
Cinnamon
The sweet and warm aroma that cinnamon gives has such a homemade cooking feel. Filling your home with an exotic scent, cinnamon can help in alleviating signs of depression, anxiety and stress allowing your family and friends to fully relax. It also improves memory and concentration. So a great one for all those game lovers out there that I'm sure will be getting out the tricky board games this Christmas.
Frankincense
Great for your immune system frankincense is the perfect oil to diffuse if there is any coughs and colds. Enhancing you mood (great one for the in-laws visit) as well as combating stress, anxiety and aiding in sleep quality, ideal for those more relaxing days.
Pine
Up for a party, this one might be for you. Pine will leave you home smelling beautifully of Christmas trees, very convenient especially if you opted for a artificial one this year. With its energising effects on the body, its ability to help eliminate fatigue and great a boosting positivity this one is the one for that more energised night of cocktails and charades.
Orange
Cheerful and uplifting orange is just perfect for that fresh feeling. Enhances immune function, helps with feelings of depression this aroma is just ideal for that pick me up we all need when New Year is a couple of days away.
Myrrh
An essential oil for feeling grounded, safe and balanced. Myrrh helps recovery from intense emotions, a sense of feeling calm and supported. For me this one is great for that time you manage to get to yourself before the rush of festive begins again.
How to use
Essential oils can be used in many different ways. My favourite and the safest way is to add to an aromatherapy diffuser. Fill your diffuser with water and add a couple of drops of your oil of choice and leave it running for a few hours.
Some essential oils can be applied to the skin, added to the bath or simply inhaled from the bottle, please read the safety guide when purchasing your oils as some oils need to be used with care especially with children and pets.
